A backend built on limited data will produce unreliable results consistently – no matter how polished the output looks. This is the first and most important thing to ask a software provider about.

Even the best algorithm produces wrong results if the fingerprints fed into it are captured incorrectly. Most buyers focus on what the report looks like and what the price is. These are the questions that actually matter – and the answers will tell you whether the provider and the software are worth trusting.
Do they work with real clients themselves?
A company that only sells software and has never delivered a DMIT assessment to a real parent or student has no firsthand knowledge of what works in practice. They can tell you about the software but not about the business.
Watch out: Providers who only operate B2B and have no retail counselling experience. Look for: A company that runs its own DMIT centre and can share real client outcomes – not just sales figures.
How was the backend algorithm built and validated?
This is the most important technical question. How many individuals were studied to build the algorithm? Across which demographics? Over what period? What were the validation accuracy rates? If the provider cannot answer this in detail, the algorithm is not something you should trust your clients’ futures to.
Watch out: Vague claims about “advanced algorithms” with no specifics. Look for: A clear explanation of the research foundation, the validation sample size, and the parameters the backend covers.
Is the software offline or server-dependent?
Server-based DMIT software can be convenient – accessible from multiple devices, no local installation needed. But it also means annual maintenance fees, dependency on a third-party server provider, and the risk of losing access if the provider changes their terms or pricing. Offline software gives you independent ownership and no external dependencies.
Watch out: Ongoing annual fees tied to server access that can be changed or withdrawn. Look for: An offline solution with independent rights – where you own the software and are not at the mercy of a third party’s pricing decisions.
What training and support comes with the purchase?
Software without training is a liability, not an asset. A DMIT practitioner who cannot accurately capture fingerprints or interpret reports will damage their reputation with every session. The training programme is as important as the software itself – and ongoing support after training is what separates a good provider from one who disappears after the sale.
Look for: A comprehensive training programme covering theory, practical sessions, report interpretation, and business development – plus ongoing support access after you complete training.
Does the platform matter?
Some providers make a significant point of the platform their software is built on – Android, cloud, .NET, C++. In practice, the platform has little bearing on what matters. A well-built algorithm produces accurate results whether it runs on a cloud server or a local desktop. Do not let platform marketing distract you from asking about accuracy and algorithm quality.
What actually matters: Accuracy, algorithm depth, training quality, and provider experience with real clients – not which platform the software was built on.
